Happenings in 2009:
April 25 – Miss Kalee Jordan was crowned the ACHRC Queen; Miss Merril Mullendore - Alternate; Miss Sydney Rogers - Horsemanship; Miss Ansley Edmondson - Miss Congeniality.
August 8 – ACHRC James Abney Memorial Scholarship awarded to Mr. Jac Crawford.
Sept 4-6 – several of our club members participated in the Alabama Open Horse Association Championship Horse Show. We also had several class champions as well as reserve champions. Congratulations to all that placed and good luck next year at the AOHA Championship Show. Winners are on the website.
October 3 – we had our fifth (5th) Allen Ingle Memorial Walking Horse Event. The first Saturday in October of each year is designated to be our walking horse show. We appreciate all the members that helped work the show. Without your support, it would not have been as successful. Please add to your schedule for 2010.
November 12 – the club officers were elected at the regular meeting. Officers for 2010: President - Jimmy Avery; Vice President - Sidney Yates; Secretary - Dereider Crew; Treasurer - Nan Ingle; Board of Directors: Pat Avery, Barbara Barrentine, Harry Crew, Nita Henderson, Jessica Hodnett, Nan Ingle, Wanda Robbins, and Sidney Yates. The board members will serve as committee members for shows and trail rides.
November 14 – the East Alabama Horseman Association held their awards supper with several of our club members receiving High Point awards – see our website for winners.
December 5 – the club held our annual Awards and Christmas supper. The 2009 Awards were presented to our Champions and Reserve Champions. See the website for a list of winners.
All shows start at 2:00 P.M. We will be sending out emails and postcards for you to volunteer your time to help work the shows. It takes all of our club members to make the shows successful.
Entry fees will increase this year from $6 to $8. As with everyone else, expenses have increased for the clubs and the association. Instead of 4 shows, EAHA has 2 shows in 2010 to raise funds for year-end awards, so $1 has been added that will be paid to EAHA, and the other $1 was added for the club. The gate fee will remain $3.
April 24 – ACHRC Queen Contest – any young lady between ages of 12 and 17 that was a member of East Alabama Horseman’s Association in 2009 is eligible to participate in the contest. See Jessica Hodnett or Carrie Jones for applications.
August 7– the Alex City Horse Riding Club / James Abney Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior or college student that qualifies for the scholarship.
Club meetings are held each second Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Arena. All club members are welcome to attend the meetings. On January 14th, one item on the table for discussion is whether the trailride buckle should be continued. Become involved in your club, attend the meetings.
Practice days at the arena have not changed... You may use the arena to ride your horse if you are a member. Please be considerate of other members who may show up to practice at the same time.
The committee members will be making plans for the events that will be held this year. If called on to work, please do so. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Hope to see you at all of the events!Happy Trails!
