Happenings in 2008: April 19 – Miss Elizabeth Moulton was crowned the ACHRC Queen; Miss Merril Mullendore - Alternate; Miss Kathryn Tucker - Horsemanship; Miss Jessica Caspari - Miss Congeniality. August 2 – ACHRC James Abney Memorial Scholarship awarded to Miss Kasi Pardue. Aug. 29 - 31 – several of our club members participated in the Alabama Open Horse Association Championship Horse Show. We also had several class champions as well as reserve champions. Congratulations to all that placed and good luck next year at the AOHA Championship Show. Winners are on the website. October 4 – we had our fourth Allen Ingle Memorial Walking Horse Event. The first Saturday in October of each year is designated to be our walking horse show. We appreciate all the members that helped work at this show. Without your support, it would not have been as successful November 13 – the club officers were elected at the regular meeting. Officers for 2009: President - Jimmy Avery; Vice President - Sidney Yates; Secretary - Dereider Crew; Treasurer - Nan Ingle; Board of Directors: Pat Avery, Barbara Barrentine, Harry Crew, Nita Henderson, Jessica Hodnett, Nan Ingle, Wanda Robbins, and Sidney Yates. The board members will serve as committee members for shows and trail rides. November 8 – the East Alabama Horseman Association held their awards supper with several of our club members receiving High Point awards – see our website for winners. December 6 – the club held our annual Awards and Christmas supper. This year the Club donated $500.00 to the Gateway to Education with Mr. Marvin Waggoner accepting the donation. The 2008 Awards were presented to our Champions and Reserve Champions. See the website for a list of winners.
All shows start at 2:00 P.M. We will be sending
out emails and postcards for you to volunteer your time to help work the
shows. It takes all of our club members to make the shows successful.
April 25 – ACHRC Queen Contest – any young lady between ages of 12 and 17 that was a member of East Alabama Horseman’s Association in 2008 is eligible to participate in the contest. See Jessica Hodnett or Carrie Jones for applications. August 8 – the Alex City Horse Riding Club / James Abney Memorial Scholarship will be awarded to a graduating senior or college student that qualifies for the scholarship. Club meetings are held each second Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. at the Arena. All club members are welcome to attend the meeting. Practice days at the arena have not changed... You may use the arena to ride your horse if you are a member. The committee members will be making plans for the events that will be held this year. If called on to work, please do so.
